Given our profession it is quite normal for there to be some need to address emergencies. We had never had a brownstone emergency, however. Before the winter arrived in Philadelphia we got a call that a good chunk of brownstone was going to fall to the pavement. Making it safe was easy, bringing the highly decayed sections of this Brownstone structure back to solid beauty was not. Brownstone is such a beautiful part of our city, but it’s use has always been somewhat problematic. Care must be taken with material selections as the natural stone needs to breathe, while most repair materials attempt to seal. We typically find the most heavily damaged brownstone to be under earlier repairs, where the rock has turned to sand. Ornamentation is a additional challenge, but one Jenny is particularly suited to given her background as a sculptor.
