One of the interesting challenges relating to historic homes is the changing social structures over time have created modernization issues for owners. Kitchens were often in the basements, as servants were the primary users. Transforming that cold dark place into your dream kitchen can still be possible. For this one, we removed a small single door and installed a large glass french door for natural lighting. We installed all new windows and a gas fireplace for warmth. We used large format porcelain tile to accentuate the open space. We created a large central island with sink for efficient work flow. We changed the lighting adding increased drama, using all LED fixtures to eliminate maintenance. The list goes on and on.
